Help Sustain the Institute for Palestine Studies—A Vital Pillar of Palestinian Knowledge Production

An Urgent Appeal from Rashid Khalidi

Dear friends,

Since October 2023, the dozens of scholars, editors, and researchers of the Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS) in Beirut, Ramallah, and Washington, DC have mobilized to document and respond to the ongoing genocide in Gaza—launching major databases, publishing daily analysis, and producing hundreds of blog posts, webinars, policy briefs, and special journal issues. Our publications across multiple platforms have reached millions of readers, and our work is more visible—and more vital—than ever.

Today, IPS, the oldest and most respected research institution on Palestine, faces one of the most difficult moments in its 60-year history.

Behind our momentum in meeting this moment of supreme danger for the Palestine cause is a hard truth: sustaining this work at the scale and quality it demands has placed IPS under immense financial strain. Like many Palestinian institutions, we are navigating a landscape of shrinking resources and growing political pressure. We are doing more with less—and the cost is mounting.

This is not just a financial appeal. In the face of a campaign to efface the very existence of Palestine, it is a call to invest in the future of Palestinian knowledge itself.

IPS is not a campaign or a moment—it is an institution. It is the archive, the analysis, the documentation, and the story. It is the intellectual infrastructure that helps us understand where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going.

If you believe in the power of independent, Palestinian-led scholarship—now is the time to stand with us. Please consider making a substantial gift as you can today to help us carry this mission forward.

We need to raise $400,000 by August 31 to sustain IPS’s independent research, publishing, and public scholarship. Institute for Palestine Studies (USA), Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Will you donate now to support IPS’s independent knowledge production?

Every dollar counts—and we truly cannot do this without you.

With deep appreciation,

Rashid Khalidi
